Chris Van Gorder – To Volunteer and Serve

“Don’t just send the help. Bring it there yourself. Get out in the field to protect and serve.” I think it’s fair to say this quote from Chris Van Gorder’s new book, “The Front-Line Leader,” describes his passion for volunteering. In 2002, just two years after becoming president and CEO of Scripps Health, Chris took on a volunteer leadership role with the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department Search & Rescue unit. Today, he is a Reserve Assistant Sheriff over Search & Rescue and the Law Enforcement Reserve.
