Laurie Coskey

At age 10, Laurie told her parents she wanted to be a Rabbi.  After receiving a degree from Stanford University and 5 years of seminary at Hebrew Union College, she was ordained as a Rabbi in 1985.

Laurie served a local congregation for several years, then stepped away from the pulpit to raise her two sons and earn a doctorate in leadership at USD.

She also serves on various Boards such as the San Diego Convention Center Corporation, the Union Tribune Community Advisory Board and the Regional Task Force on the Homeless.

Doug Arbon, Bink Cook and Kristen Ford were her sponsors.

 

Karen Batcher

Law-Corporate and Securities

Karen is Senior Counsel with Teeple Hall, LLP. She is a former member of the Chula Vista and Escondido Rotary Clubs.  She encouraged her mother to join Rotary, who eventually began president of the Chula Vista club.

She comes from a family of avid sailors and grew up sailing on the San Francisco Bay. When she was 12 years old, she and her family moved on a boat and sailed for three and half years, mostly in the Sea of Cortez.

Karen earned an undergraduate degree at UCLA and her law degree from USD. She is a single mom raising two very active teenagers.

Paul Hartley was her sponsor.

Our next meeting will be on Thursday, November 9.  We will be celebrating  and honoring our military community during our annual Salute to Military program.  Joining us will be up to 70 military personnel, to hear our guest speaker Lane Nishikawa, a writer, director, and film producer about Japanese-American WWII veterans.
