At age 10, Laurie told her parents she wanted to be a Rabbi. After receiving a degree from Stanford University and 5 years of seminary at Hebrew Union College, she was ordained as a Rabbi in 1985.
Laurie served a local congregation for several years, then stepped away from the pulpit to raise her two sons and earn a doctorate in leadership at USD.
She also serves on various Boards such as the San Diego Convention Center Corporation, the Union Tribune Community Advisory Board and the Regional Task Force on the Homeless.
Doug Arbon, Bink Cook and Kristen Ford were her sponsors.
