Monarch School Tour and Reception

November 18, 2014 at 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm

$25

San Diego has more than 20,000 homeless youth hoping for a better future. Monarch School is a public K-12 school in downtown San Diego solely for homeless students. Since its move last year to its new campus in Barrio Logan, Monarch School has doubled in size, currently serving over 300 students daily. Join the Grotarians for a tour of the new campus and reception.
Monarch School CEO Erin E. Spiewak, a fellow Rotarian, and her colleagues will take us on a guided tour of the new school. As we tour the school, Erin and her staff will explain the school programs, extracurricular activities for the students, the daily meals provided for the students, and clothing provided in the Monarch’s Butterfly Boutique. They will discuss the goals of the school and the students and the necessary skills being taught to the students to plan and succeed in the future. After the tour, we will gather in the school’s atrium for some fellowship, adult beverages and a Mediterranean meal.
